Our projects
Community-led responses (RMC)
The Community Led Responses (CLR) program aims to improve the living conditions of vulnerable populations by helping them to identify and resolve the crises they face, while strengthening their resilience to future crises through their active participation.
Haiti Survie, with the support of Christian Aid, has had the opportunity to implement this approach in the North-East of the country. The problems tackled by the communities over the last three years of experimentation have been diverse, including food insecurity, public lighting, rehabilitation of irrigation canals, and repair of manual water pumps, among others.
Lessons learned during this period include:
  • The crucial importance of the active participation of communities in meeting their specific needs
  • The need to work with local stakeholders to build long-term community resilience.
  • The effectiveness demonstrated by the collaboration and coordination between the various stakeholders involved in implementing the RMC program.
  • The importance of flexibility and adaptation to respond effectively to changing community needs.

Activities performed

Main canal development work

During phase 1, the CEPAS organization carried out an intervention to rehabilitate the irrigation network in Loiseau in order to revive agricultural activities, which are the key sector of economic activity in this area.

Rehabilitation work on the section linking Acul samedi to Lamothe.

APADCM's work to rehabilitate the road linking Acul Samedi to Lamothe has been a success, because of the importance of this road for both communities, where transporting goods was previously almost impossible, which was bad for the local economy.

Installation of solar-powered street lamps

The AFASDA organization carried out an intervention in Garatte, where the community was confronted with the non-electrification of its area, a situation that led to numerous reprehensible acts at night. According to the local population, the installation of lights is an effective way of reducing the risk of violence.

Repair work on water pumps

the two zones Dumas and Dolval have been facing water problems due to the fact that most of the pumps in these zones have broken down, organizations such as ESH and AJPDD have intervened to repair the pumps and so far, only one of them has stopped giving water after the intervention and the technicians have said that it's a problem with the water table.

Distribution of food kits in the Fort Liberté prison

After a long period of non-replenishment of the Fort Liberté prison cafeteria due to political problems, inmates began to fall ill. To help the convicts, the AFASDA team donated food products to the prison cafeteria.

Distribution of food kits to vulnerable families

During this third year, six organizations were involved in setting up responses to food insecurity, and many households benefited from food kits to help them for a few days.
